oh! if we’re talking about Nimona’s comic-to-movie changes

i do have one that crosses my mind every now and then when i watch movie and this change is a tone down of Balister’s science-nerd side bc

while yes movie Balister still made himself a whole mechanic ARM. i mean wow man. but in the comic he was like a real full-ass scientist. just watch

i just found out about nimona’s christmas special from 2013 and-

i don’t think my heart can take it.

“this is why people hit you” pls 😭😭😭

ambrosius has been a dramatic bitch since day one, i love it. and bal is just like *sigh* he’s an idiot but he’s MY idiot. gotta save his ass, i guess.

image

he protecc, he atacc, but most importantly- he got his friend’s bacc 😤

image

he’s just a little guy *cries*

long story short, ballister gives ambrosius the christmas gift and acts oblivious, like a good friend he is.

image

having witnessed this, i love how their dynamic as adults seems like a very natural progression from what they had as kids. if you just ignore, well, the whole you’re my archnemesis and we need to fight each other because of a terrible incident in our past we have never honestly adressed or explained. but yeah, they’re just so very sweet and caring, truly a black cat and golden retriver energy at its finest.

based on this i would also guess ambrosius is younger than ballister, with the way he looks and with this childlike innocence and naivety. that, or he’s just always been smaller than bal. either way, it makes me think how ambrosius is an easy target for bullies and how ballister feels responsible for him and his safety/happiness. i wonder if looking at the perfect, golden imagine adult ambrosius has created, ballister ever saw the scrawny little boy with a black eye who hid behind his back.

he probably did, huh.

the idea that they were raised together, grew up together, fallen in love at some point, spent their whole lives together, really, makes me go crazy. how both of them lost the only friend they ever had, a friend they were never allowed to fully love.

i made myself sad, but the point is the world needs more bal and amb-ro-zee-us as little boys. they’re everything

Okay since I now have a VERY popular post comparing Ambrosius in the movie vs the comic (primarily pointing out what a dick he is lmao) I DO feel the need to compile my gayest goldenheart moments. Like yeah their relationship is full of anger and bitterness and they hurt each other a lot but they DO still love each other. Like I do think that the movie characters could’ve become closer to the comic characters if you gave it the 10-20 years (ambiguous) of being nemeses from the comics. Definitely still different, considering the circumstances were totally different, but closer. But anyways: homosexuals

“archnemeses” being super concerned about their wellbeing. And I don’t have a screenshot but the Director even calls Goldenloin out on not fighting him as hard as he could basically. And Nimona says p much the same thing to Ballister

And yeah my original post was about how hilariously flippant Ambrosius was about the arm thing but like. He DOES actually feel bad about it, and I think that repressed guilt underlies a lot of his meanness. He’s flippant BECAUSE he feels bad, so he tries to diminish it and not talk about it.

image
image

And of course, I love a good “don’t touch him!!” protective rage moment ❤️❤️❤️❤️ they can beat the shit out of each other but NO ONE ELSE can touch his husband archnemesis

Finally, the cut-off love confession 💔 and the hand on Ambrosius’s cheek!!! Literally I’m obsessed with them. It’s just so good. Read the comic

Listen, I don’t care if you don’t understand Hindi. You HAVE to listen to Hindi Ballister’s delivery of the “Let’s break stuff” (toh ho jaye tod-phod) line. Sexiest line in Nimona.

A line I don’t think gets talked about enough:

“He didn’t cut off my arm. He was disarming a weapon. It’s how we were trained.”

The Institute took young kids and turned them into weapons. The Knights were trained to view themselves and their bodies as weapons.

Ambrosius cutting off Ballister’s arm was ingrained instinct. You can see in his face that he doesn’t realize what he’s doing until it’s too late, until the blade is already too far along in it’s swing. And after, he drops his sword like he didn’t realize how it got into his hand in the first place. He looks at Ballister with a dawning horror of what he’s just done, on instinct.

And then, the big fight. There’s a reason Ballister was top of the class. When fighting the guards he isn’t touched. In the middle of fighting Ambrosius, he cloths-lines a guard behind him WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING. Ambrosius doesn’t even look surprised that Ballister won, as if it’s normal, as if Ballister had always won their duels before.

I just. I have a lot of thoughts about this and I don’t have the words to express them. I just want other people to see what I see and talk about it too. To think about the implications of that line and how it’s delivered in a matter-of-fact way.

It’s a FAT ZERO. HELLO!! A little LATE ADDITION to the numerical symbol chart brought to us from our friends in Arabia, a little bit of trivia that I happen to know about the history of numbers. That kind of little tidbit would serve me well in most trivia games, unless it had been RIGGED FROM THE BEGINNING!

[ID: Image one is a Spotify playlist titled “i’ve only just begun to pull the thread on this sweater”. Its cover image shows Brennan Lee Mulligan on Game Changer saying “I know what’s going on here.” The following images are all the songs on the playlist. Together, they spell out his whole monologue for the “Brennan Cannot Win” game, as follows (with added punctuation):

“Friends, you would think in a game where there are only two possible correct choices, that one would stumble into the right answer every so often, wouldn’t you? In fact, the probability of never guessing right in the full game is a statistical wonder, and yet, here we are. Introduced at the top of the game as a champion, what do you think that means? Icarus, flying too close to the sun. But it seems Daedalus, our little master crafter over here, had some wax wings of his own, didn’t he? Wanted to see his son fall. Fall from the sky. Oh, how close to the sun he flew! Well I’m not having it. I solved your labyrinth, puzzle master! The minotaur‘s escaped and you’re gonna get the horns, buddy! I cannot win!” End ID]
